New Orleans, LA USA
In a city filled with sugary, toxified, neon go cups, there lies a refuge for amazing cocktails and friendly locals who will swap stories with you.
Every time I'm in the Crescent City, I pay a visit to Bar Tonique. Even though I may be a tourist fish-out-of-water, the amazing bar staff always delivers. My 2020 visit was no exception.
The $6 daily specials (mules, bacon bloodies, mai tais) are a steal. The entire menu, batched in to different profiles, interprets classics with perfection. And yes, they make a damn good sazerac.
Perhaps most telling, when bartenders congregate for Tales of the Cocktail, the worldwide number one conference for bar professionals, they drink at Bar Tonique.
Hit up this bar early and then spend the night wandering (or stumbling - your call) in the adjacent French Quarter. Or finish the night here and then go get a greasy slice to soak up the yummy booze. I've done both. Either way you can't go wrong!
To qualify for The Single Table awards, I had to visit that location in the given calendar year.
